I include the two volumes of La Fontaine's Contes illustrated by Touchet because they came as part of the numbered four-volume set. In fact, this volume is marked with the same number, #1173 of 2150, as the first volume of fables. My impression is that French artists love to play with La Fontaine's rather scurrilous stories. These illustrations are delightful, if a little racy for most people's taste.en_US
