Remark:
Let me start with Peter's fine description: "Suite of 11 original etchings with incorporated text in letterpress, each numbered and signed by Thomas Harndt. Small 8vo. Loose leaves as issued in folding portfolio with printed front title. One of 70 numbered copies. Selection of 12 prose fables by G.E. Lessing in the original version of 1759. Thomas Harndt's (b. 1932) etchings present the animals in very vivid and naturalistic actions. --Bodemann 515.1; Fabula docet 159. -- Mint copy." Among the best of these etchings is the third. An ass confronted with a hungry wolf claimed to have a thorn stuck in his hoof. The wolf answers that he feels all the more compelled to free him from his pain. The illustration shows an aggressive attack. The selection of Lessing fables to illustrate is very good.
