    Remark:
Of the hundred-and-one stories here, many come from two paperback books of smaller size and format: Aesop's Fables Book 1 and Aesop's Fables Book 2 by the same author, illustrator, and pulbisher. I have those two books listed under 2000? There are perhaps ten non-fables among the stories. Most of this volume's stories occupy one page, with a colored illustration of perhaps a quarter-of-a-page placed within the text. There is a T of C at the front. This volume includes a fable I met before in the first volume of Aesop's fables mentioned above: The Hare and the Fox (21). The hare asks the fox if he really is cunning, or whether his victims are simply foolish. The fox says that he finds the question interesting and would like to discuss it with the hare over dinner. When the hare arrives, he notices quickly that, while the table is set, there is no food on it. He quickly runs off! The host fox has a knife in a holster around his waist. One unexpected story here is Metabo and Camille (Metabus and Camilla, 34). Also curious is The Grocer's Shop (51). Is this a story? In The Viper, the Water Snake, and the Frogs (57), the frogs support their friend the viper by cheering. After he wins, they ask for their share of the spoils. He whistles for them and explains that he is repaying them in the same way in which they had helped him.
